Are you one of those people who have lots of free time on their hands because of the pandemic? Well, most of us are. Stuck in our homes with almost nothing to do than being a couch potato throughout the day. Even though there is a threat to the world economy there are a few industries that have benefited a lot from the pandemic. Well, if I’m right, your first guess would be the health equipment industry who are basically selling masks, hand sanitizers etc. And you aren’t wrong. But if not the top industry, the video game industry actually makes it to the list because of its growth. People have so much time to kill that those who were nongamers before and could hardly find time for it before the COVID-19 pandemic are now turning to game. This has lead to an increase in the number of gamers worldwide.

What do you need to get started as a gamer?

Gaming Laptop

As a first, you would be needing a gaming laptop to actually game on. Considering you’re a beginner and don’t really want to spend much. It would be very helpful if you don’t really have an idea what to buy.

Some important things you need to consider while buying is the GPU, Display and supported RAM. Choose the one that gives you the best value for your money in terms of these three.

Gaming Headset

Well, second most important thing you need to get with it is a gaming headset. You can go with normal headsets if you want and are short on budget but yes, it would greatly improve your performance if you go for a gaming headset. For best performance buy the one with 5.1 surround sound. Make sure you check all the reviews before you buy one.

Gaming Mouse

Just like a gaming headset, next thing you need is a good gaming mouse. Gaming mouse is different from a regular mouse and allows quicker reactions from gamers while gaming and thereby increasing performance.

Cooling pad

This is a must. Gaming laptops usually heat up while gaming. Hence, this is necessary that you buy a cooling pad so you can tackle the heating problem. Also, to prevent heating, make sure to clean the vents and keep your laptop as free of dust as possible. There are some special cooling pads available as well that prevent dust from getting into your system.

In April 2020, Twitch saw around 1.5 billion hours of gaming streams watched. 20 million people which was all time high concurrent users for Steam, a major gaming platform, was hit in March, there was a 35 percent increase in sales of games over an year. Epic games recently made GTA V free and saw a huge turnout of users for buying the game. People who were non gamers before since they couldn’t find time are turning towards gaming to find new sources of entertainment. Amazon saw increased sale gaming laptop in midrange suggesting they were new users.

Will the gaming industry benefit from it in the future as well?

But is all of this just during this pandemic or is gaming industry going to benefit from this in the long term as well? Well, the answer is simple. When you’ve got new converts, who weren’t gaming before but are now gaming daily, there is no going back from that now. Gaming industry has indeed benefitted a lot from the lockdown and the pandemic and will continue to do it. That’s about the future. But since things will take some time to get to normal, gaming industry will continue to benefit from this increase in gaming users.
